Raise Your Glass to London’s Largest South African Wine List at Vivat Bacchus

A love of South African wine is where it all started for us 20 years ago, and where it still stands today. South Africa has a winemaking heritage that’s hard to beat, with a collision of old and new world wine styles producing a huge range of incredible wines from across the Rainbow Nation.

We are exceptionally proud to be housing London’s largest South African wine list across our Farringdon and London Bridge restaurants, showcasing the diversity and excellence that South African winemakers offer!

Step into our cosy South African wine bar and you’ll find yourself in a wine lovers paradise. Each of our restaurants has its very own walk-in wine cellar, where you can pop in, take a little tour and pick out a bottle that speaks to your soul. We age our bottles in our cellar so you can be sure that what you’re sipping is ready for its moment in the spotlight.

Unsure of what to try? Our team are obsessed with wine and are on hand to help you find a wine that you will love. A few of our SA faves include:

Meerlust – these guys are all about Bordeaux blends in South Africa and they nail it every time!

Bartinney – the buttery Chardonnay is an absolute hit at Vivat Bacchus. The vineyards are perched 550 metres above sea level on steep slopes and the winery truly embodies sustainable winemaking and a dedication to quality.

Rainbows End - known for creating some of SA's best wines, with a whole host of awards and accolades under their belt including best Cabernet Franc in all of South Africa!

Boekenhoutskloof – the creators of the legendary Chocolate Block, the winemakers have been crafting outstanding wines since 1776

Kanonkop – known as the pioneers of pinotage, Kanokop holds a special place in South African winemaking history, and their wines are nothing short of exceptional.

Blackwater Wines - The Underdog Chenin Blanc is honest to goodness Chenin Blanc, so clean it almost squeaks: no oak, no residual sugar and no chemicals additions; crafted by Francois Hassbroek.

Hamilton Russell - a divine Chardonnay from Heaven and Earth, or Hemel-en-Aarde as the Africaans would call it. An elegant and enchanting Chardonnay from the pioneers in one the most southerly vineyards in South Africa.

Whilst we’ve got a special place in our hearts for South African wines, our wine list is a global adventure. Our wine list boats the finest-aged Bordeaux, along with a treasure trove of both Old and New World classics. Plus, we’ve got some seriously rare vintages from the most prestigious producers that you won’t find just anywhere.

At Vivat Bacchus, sustainability is an integral part of our ethos, both in our wine selection and in the kitchen. While we champion the key players in South African winemaking, many of our wines come from small, independent winemakers who share our passion for a better future and produce their wine accordingly. It’s a celebration of sustainable winemaking and responsible practices.

Ready to dive deeper into the world of wine? We’ve got you covered with regular tastings hosted by our expert WSET accredited wine team. Our winemakers often visit, so you can chat with them and get the insider information. Check out our events to stay in the loop about our upcoming tastings and events.

Cheers to the beauty of South African wine and beyond… 🍷
