South African steak restaurant in the heart of London

You know we love our South African wine. But did you know we take our food just as seriously? Good, rustic South African inspired food, blending seasonal ingredients from sustainable suppliers with a nose-to-tail cooking approach dominates the menus at Vivat Bacchus. Taking inspiration from the country’s rich and diverse history, our dishes embrace bold flavours and rare breed meats that will transport you to the Rainbow Nation with every bite.

Our Steaks

Our star of the show – as you may know from our Club Carnivore dinners – is always a steak, whether that’s an Ostrich Fillet Steak – a succulent, low fat meat incredibly popular in South Africa, a T Bone steak, or a 28-day aged sharing Cote de Boeuf which is a Ribeye on the bone. Served with a classic bearnaise or peppercorn, or a traditional South African Monkey Gland sauce – which is like a BBQ sauce (no monkeys are harmed in the making of our Monkey Gland sauce).

Our steaks and our meats from our grill section match perfectly with our wines. Whilst we have London’s largest South African wine list, our cellars are also brimmed full with incredible wines from both the new and old worlds. There is always the perfect bottle to pair with your steak, whether that’s a Meerlust Rubicon from Stellenbosch, South Africa’s first Bordeaux style blend, or Bartinney’s extra special Skyfall Cabernet Sauvignon. Our brilliant teams are on hand to help you the find the perfect pairing!

Alongside our steaks we serve up some iconic South African dishes including crocodile goujons, braai broodjie croquettes and a classic SA dessert, the peppermint crisp tart. Join us for an authentic taste of South Africa.

Where you can find our London Steak Restaurants

Farringdon Steak Restaurant

Our two South African steak restaurants can be found in central London, with one in Farringdon and one in London Bridge. Our Farringdon restaurant is located on the corner of Farringdon Street and Charterhouse Street, a short walking distance from Chancery Lane tube station, City Thameslink and Farringdon.

London Bridge Restaurant

Our London Bridge restaurant is located on Hays Lane in front of The Cottons Centre, opposite the stairwell to Fitness First. We are diagonally across from the Tooley Street entrance of London Bridge station behind Pret a Manger. We are a very short walk from London Bridge tube and train station.

Both restaurants are an excellent choice for after work dinners and private events, with a huge range of private dining spaces across both our Farringdon and London Bridge restaurants.

Club Carnivore

Our Club Carnivore dinners are the perfect food and wine pairing experience for meat and steak lovers! There are just three rules…

Rule one: red meat only.
Rule two: red wine only.
Rule three: wine served exclusively in MAGNUMS or larger.

One to really sink your teeth into, Club Carnivore is an unrivalled meat and wine pairing experience at our South African steak restaurants. Running regularly at either our London Bridge or Farringdon restaurants, the wine and meat feast is made up of five dishes expertly paired with five bold reds.

Expect to try Biltong and Droewors (South African style cured meats), made to traditional SA recipes, along with the pièce de résistance – our Cote de Boeuf, a 28 day, dry-aged Surrey Hills steak for two to share, with triple cooked chips and a choice of sauces.

A seat at the Club Carnivore table cost £95 per person and tickets sell out fast. Snap yours up via the events page on our website.
